JavaScript Class Definitions

May 24, 2007 » Geek

I had a hard time understanding basic classes in JavaScript and the tutorials I found all got way to bogged down in useless fluff, so I thought I’d put up this no-nonsense example of a JavaScript class. Expect a version using Base.js once I learn that way.

On the hunt!

May 22, 2007 » Geek

I’m on the hunt for a new distro. Mepis was driving me crazy in a few small ways, mostly that all the apps were outdated. Don’t flame me, thats just how it seemed to my weak powers of observation. I threw Feisty Fawn Kubuntu on the other night, absolutely terrible. Am I the only one who has Amarok freeze every time I start it while running Beryl? Plus the whole Automatix song and dance got old fast.

I’m downloading the KDE version of Linux Mint right now, thought I’d give that a go. Also want to try a BSD flavor someday, I’m just so stuck in using Debian tool (e.g. apt-get) that I don’t like learning new stuff. Oh well.

Five years and I have never been pulled over. That’s an accomplishment too, those five years are from 16-21 in a 1968 Mustang with a big V8. Unfortunately that winning streak was ended today by a state trooper on I-80. He pulled me over for having “an obstructed license plate”. Part of the little registration tag was covered by the plate frame. And when I say little, I really do mean little, you can see the color and month if you want. I think he was fishing. I’ll post pics when I get a chance. Anyway, there goes my streak. It was only a warning, and as a bonus I was late for work. I’m not bitter though.

OurUNO is Our Reviews

May 1, 2007 » Geek

Well, tonight I finally got around to working on OurUNO. I decided a long time ago to convert it to a framework around which anyone can build up a college review site. I started cutting up the code around 9:00 and it’s now 3:45 of the next day. Ouch.

I naturally decided to use Smarty to template this guy, and then I decided that there was going to be a definite need for good docs. I chose NaturalDocs and it’s pretty good. It’s got 0 learning curve for the basic functionality, and outputs pretty docs.

I got most of the system documented tonight, and converted about, contact, index, and viewReviews to Smarty. There are still some problems with NaturalDocs I have to figure out (like how to group files together) and lots of files to template of course.

I think I can have a package together within a month. I’ll hook up to sourceforge soon, maybe snag a domain. It’s actually been a lot easier than I thought it would be so far. Smarty is pretty kickin, as is NaturalDocs. The latter could, ironically, use better documentation.
